The Robert Abady Dog Food Co. is recalling certain boxes of Abady Highest Quality Maintenance & Growth Formula for Cats due to potential Salmonella bacteria contamination, according to an announcement issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) April 10.

The recall applies to 2-pound, 5-pound and 15-pound boxes stamped with lot number 14029/21. It was initiated after routine testing by the Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-based company found Salmonella in some of the boxes.

While no animal or human illnesses have been linked to the recalled food, the company said it has suspended making the product while it works with the FDA to determine the cause of the contamination.

The recalled food was sold nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders. Consumers who bought the product are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-845-473-1900 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
