AAW Pro Wrestling is fast becoming one of the most talked about independent Pro Wrestling promotions in the United States. Based out of Chicago, they have a vivid mixture of strong veterans and young talent providing a legitimate alternative to the mainstream wrestling of WWE and TNA IMPACT. The company which IS constantly staying fresh with new storylines and long-term angles, has also been a platform for the mainstream launching the careers of WWE superstars like former NXT Champion Seth Rollins.
AAW continues to present large scale ‘indy’ events throughout the Chicagoland area and this Sunday will be no different as they roll into Palatine’s Durty Nellies with a Internet Pay Per View taping fittingly dubbed “Durty Deeds”. Casual fans in the Second City who have never attended an ‘indy show’ could get a premium event this Sunday with a large screen projecting entrance videos and professional lighting. The card for the show is stacked with a who’s-who of all-star wrestlers including talent from Ring of Honor, Chikara Pro, and Dragon Gate USA.
The main event for the AAW Heavyweight title is a can’t miss bout as Michael Elgin who some of you may know from ROH defend against his hated rival Silas Young. Young dominated AAW as champion for over a year and half before Elgin finally took the title off him in a very violent “I Quit” match in October. The tooth fang claw fight saw Elgin and Young hammer one another with steel chairs, crescent wrenches being mashed into ‘private areas’, and Young crashing from outside the ring onto an exposed guard rail. The match elevated both men in the eyes of local fans and raised the standard of AAW Heavyweight gold.
Another must-see match will be former ROH World Champion Davey Richards colliding with one of the most talked free-agents in the business, Sami Callihan. Both men have exchanged their stiff blows and muscle-tearing submission holds in the AAW ring in the past with each one trying to prove their grit to the other. These guys simply don’t like each other, and this fact becomes very clear once they step in the ring together. Richards holds a victory over Callihan from last year, a match earned high regard by many wrestling critics.
Callihan who has reportedly been catching the eye of WWE officials, should be seen in action. His large presence in both physical stature and charisma make him special. His wrestling skills are pure and impactful which are accentuated by his loud punk-rocker aesthetic.
