Aaron Rodgers has been ruled out for the Week 16 Green Bay Packers game. Without Rodgers, the Packers will again turn to Matt Flynn for an important win. A report from CBS Sports on Friday afternoon (Dec. 20) confirms that the former NFL MVP won't be back on the field just yet.
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy weighed in on the situation, stating that, "As we do every week, a lot of conversation about Aaron. As an organization we are not ready for him to play. That's where we are. He's not medically cleared, that's still the case today. As an organization we don't believe it's the right time for him to play."
This isn't exactly surprising news, but fantasy football owners still alive in the postseason were likely hoping for a better report from the team. Instead, Matt Flynn is going to get the nod again, giving him a real shot to prove what he can do. Last week against the Dallas Cowboys, he had four touchdowns and pushed the team to a big comeback win in the fourth quarter.
Having Aaron Rodgers ruled out isn't the end of the line for the Green Bay Packers, even though the team is in a must-win situation moving forward. The team has a shot to even take over first place in the NFC North and improve to 8-6-1 with a victory. They will just have to do it without the best player on the roster.
