This Wednesday night Atlanta gets the opportunity to listen to one of the best songwriters around today. Rolling into town from Nashville via New York and Ohio the seasoned guitar for hire and singer/songwriter Aaron Lee Tasjan (ALT) will offer a glimpse into what good music is all about at he Masquerade.
ALT has played with some of the best musicians out there (Alberta Cross, New York Dolls, Everest, Todd Snider), has had some of his songs recorded by big name artists & find their way onto TV shows and movies and has been honored for his writing abilities by the Kennedy Center. He fronted one of the best bands I have ever treated my ears to, the Madison Square Gardeners, and his solo work makes you want to listen over and over. He has just accepted a gig with Atlanta’s favorite sons Drivin’ N’ Cryin’ to man the guitar on the road and he has an upcoming solo EP, Crooked River Burning, that was produced by Anton Fier (Golden Palominos, Drivin’ N’ Cryin’, Kevn Kinney Band). While just his resume alone is worth checking him out live, it is his guitar playing, melodic voice and ability to pen songs with catchy lyrics about love, girls and relationship that you want to come hear. When he plays with a band his songs capture a Tom Pettyesque sound about them while achieving a level of power pop found in Cheap Trick, Big Star or Material Issue songs. When tackling things solo he can tone it down and rearrange the songs so they have a different feel and come across more emotional, sometimes more powerful. The set list should feature his new music while mixing in a healthy collection of tunes from his vast song catalog.
Joining him for the evening will be Joe Fletcher. He usually is front and center with his band the Wrong Reasons dishing out blues soaked country tunes and doing it quite well I might add. His album White Lighter was revered by critics and peers and should be included in any music lover’s record collection. He also is known for his acoustic shows and that should be what we get Wednesday night.
ALT and Joe Fletcher are musicians you need to know and listen to. Check out their music then make plan for a night out on Wednesday to come listen to them live at the Masquerade. The show is an early one so be sure you get here on time so you don’t miss out on either set. It should be a great Wednesday night in Purgatory.
