Aaron Hernandez case takes a bizarre, New England golf-related twist (video)

The Aaron Hernandez investigation just got even more “Sopranos”-like (if you’re a conspiracy buff, that is), with news out of Connecticut that police wanted to question a man killed on Sunday when his Nissan Maxima crashed into the Country Club of Farmington.

Thaddeus Singleton III, 33, was married to Tanya Valderrama, a cousin of the former New England Patriots tight end, according to the Hartford Courant. Hernandez is in jail, facing first-degree murder charges in the June 17 death of Odin Lloyd of Dorchester, Mass.

Singleton’s car, traveling at a high speed, took out a telephone pole, water and gas lines, and a fence before going airborne and smashing into a building on the golf club’s property that appeared to be a locker room for members.

Police closed the intersection between Rtes. 10 and 4 and the course was shuttered as well for the past two days. The 18-hole, Devereaux Emmet-designed course reopened on Wednesday, but club officials were huddled in meetings all morning and unavailable for comment.

Singleton, according to the Courant, was imprisoned for drug-related crimes in the mid-1990s. His car took off some 100 feet through the air and hit the building on the grounds of the 120-year-old private club in Farmington, which is some 10 miles from Bristol, where Hernandez grew up.

The car Singleton drove was registered to Hernandez’ uncle, Andres Valderrama. A woman passenger, Tabitha Perry, was hospitalized after the crash.

Singleton’s wife was not in the car at the time of the accident. Police had searched Tanya Valderrama’s Bristol home in connection with the ongoing investigation into Lloyd’s shooting death as well as Hernandez’ potential involvement in a 2012 double homicide in Boston, according to the Courant.
