Two days after the horrific killing of 12 persons at the Navy yard in Washington, D.C., the mother of the killer – Aaron Alexis’ mother, Cathleen Alexis – has spoken out about her son’s deadly shooting spree, according to Yahoo! News on Wednesday. She has said that her heart is broken – yet said that she is glad the he can no longer do harm to anyone else.
In a brief statement that the mass murderer’s mother read to reporters, she said that she has no idea why her son would do anything like he did on Monday morning. She also said that her son’s actions have had a profound and everlasting effect on the families of the victims and she is very, very sorry that the deadly incident occurred. She said, obviously, she will never be able to ask her son why he did such a thing.
On Tuesday, the step-father of the murderer also spoke by saying that his step-son saw 9-11’s tragic events happen right in front of him as he was on the escalator coming up from the subway station in New York City. He said that he saw the building come down and rushed to pull people from the rubble. In his comments to the Daily Mail, he said that the 9-11 incident was traumatic for everyone involved and that his step-son was a strong young man who didn’t talk much about witnessing the 9-11 tragedy.
The day of the Navy yard occurrence- Monday – Aaron Alexis’ brother-in-law spoke at his home in Brooklyn, New York by saying that his wife – the murderer’s sister – had not seen the shooter in five years.
Friends of Aaron Alexis have said that the shooter claimed to have had post-traumatic stress disorder because of his work at the scene of the 9-11 World Trade Center attack – though police have said they have no record of the claim. And finally, in Seattle, back in 2004, Aaron Alexis’ father also stated that his son had post-traumatic-stress disorder. He made that claim when his son fired a gun at someone’s car tires.
