A new biopic based on the life of R&B singer Aaliyah is going to be made by cable channel Lifetime. Confirmed by Fact magazine, the network has announced a new movie about the singer based on Christopher Farley's biography "Aaliyah: More than a Woman." The role of the songtress has been cast to Disney channel actress Zendaya Coleman, who has starred in “Frenemies,” “Superbuddies,” and “Zapped.” The working title for the upcoming film is “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B” and is slated to be directed by Bradley Walsh. A tentative release date has not been set for the film.
Aaliyah released her first album “Age Ain't Nothing But a Number” in 1994 and went on to release 1996's “One in a Million” and 2001's successful “Aaliyah.” Her career was cut short when she died in a plane crash August 2001, aged 22. For more on Aaliyah, visit her website.
