Zendaya will portray R&B singer Aaliyah aka Aaliyah Dana Haughton in an upcoming Lifetime movie entitled "Aaliyah: Princess of R&B," Variety is reporting. The true-story movie is based on the book "Aaliyah: More Than a Woman” by Christopher Farley.
The Lifetime original movie will chronicle the life of Aaliyah from her early years to her tragic death. Zendaya aka Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, 17, will sing several of Aaliyah's songs for the biopic.
Aaliyah kicked off her singing career after an appearance on the defunct talent show "Star Search." She was just 10 years old when she made her singing debut on the show. Aaliyah is best known for her unique voice, style of dress and trendy dance moves.
Aaliyah also acted in two films before her death, such as "Romeo Must Die" and "Queen of the Damned." Her recognizable voice can also be heard in various other movies.
Aaliyah was killed along with her entourage in a deadly plane crash after filming her latest video "Rock The Boat" in the Bahamas in 2001.
The Zendaya-Aaliyah Lifetime movie is set to premier some time during the fall season.
