A Russian news agency called RIA Novosti states that a 56-year-old woman was protecting her cat when she stabbed her husband to death in Feb. 2013. Baikal Daily reported that the couple, from the Zakamensky district in East Siberia's Republic of Buryatia, had been drinking and were intoxicated when the stabbing took place. According to a HuffPost translation of a report by Russian-language Interfax News, the investigators statement said "over dinner on the evening of February 10, the couple had been drinking alcohol when the husband's eyes fixed again on the cat. He seized a poker and chased the cat, attempting to hit and injure it."
The woman stated that in trying to protect her cat, she grabbed a knife from the table and stabbed her husband three times in the chest. Her husband had indicated that he did not like the cat in the past, which may have been what provoked his attack on the cat. Assistant Chief Mark Herman of Harris County Precinct 4 told local news outlet KHOU said "the husband was trying to do something to the cat and the wife was just trying to protect her cat."
This case is currently under investigation and the woman is scheduled to go through a psychological examination. If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in jail.
