A who's who of video game writers join new gaming magazine Kickstarter project

RETRO Magazine will be a throwback to the golden age of video game magazines while bringing a fresh approach to the genre
RETRO Magazine

While the internet and e-readers have seemingly put the day of the video game magazine behind us, a new Kickstarter project is looking to show it can still be done.

RETRO: The Multi-Format, Throwback Video Game Magazine is the title of the new crowdfunding effort, headed up by GameGavel.com's Mike Kennedy. The project is aiming for a $50,000 goal. Within the first week alone more than 500 backers pitched in to get the magazine on it's way.

Should the project meet it's funding goals, the first issue would come out in January 2014 and run bi-monthly in both physical and digital formats. Unlike previous magazines, RETRO will not focus on game reviews and previews that can now be found instantly online, instead bringing exclusive interviews, columns from a variety of video game personalities from more than 30 years of experience and more.

Currently confirmed as part of the project is a who's who of video game content, including Andy Eddy, Kat Bailey, Robert Welkner, Jeremy Parish, Pat Contri, Leonard Herman, Martin Alessi, Keith Robinson and many others.

The full project can be found on Kickstarter through November 3.
