A weekend celebration of winter crashes on St. Paul

A celebration of winter will be in full force this weekend with a full day of events on Saturday January 26, 2013. The St. Paul Winter Carnival starts with a frigid display of ice sculptures in downtown St. Paul.

At the top of the list of events worth checking out are the 2013 Red Bull Crashed Ice races that will send skaters flying down Cathedral Hill in less than a minute. The crews have been working on the ice cross track for two weeks and the primary rounds were set to take place on January 24, 2013. The preliminary runs were postponed as the ice was too cold resulting in brittle ice and dangerous track conditions.

The energy drink sponsor of the Crashed Ice race has transformed St. Paul, adding mood lighting to the Cathedral as well as gigantic monitors for the event. Before the game and races make sure you catch the ice sculptures in downtown St. Paul.

The weekend looks to be a fantastic celebration of winter as the weather looks to be in the 20 degree range, perfect for winter enjoyment. Stay tuned to The Minnesota Sports Report and Examiner.com for updates on this weekend’s festivities.
