Holiday Wine Guide Watch the video. Agree or disagree, it will get you thinking about wines for the holidays. Are you wine ready? Hmmm. looks like you may need some field work.

Look over the selection of wine tastings being held at are wine shops Friday, December 20th. Pick a minimum of two, or not three; and the same number of friends to join you. Taste wine. It won’t bite! If it does, dump your glass, and try something else. When you learn what you truly love, and actually dislike, in a wine, you do learn a bit about you.

So, wine is a self0-acualizing journey. Yeah!

Okay, since the Christmas Holiday grows near, the number of tasting has shortened. With that, you selection process should be easier! Fewer to choose from, yet gems such as the annual Champaign tasting…. Holiday ready! And, speaking of bubbly, it’s never too early to begin selecting the wines you want to take to your New Years Eve party!

Now, on to your options, and opportunities for self discovery!

The Bruery 12 Days of Christmas Beer Flight
Sunday, Dec. 22nd • 2pm - 4pm • $15 for flight of 6
”The 12 days of Christmas is a well-known verse, and the folks at San Diego's Belgian-leaning brewery, named The Bruery, chose it for the theme of their holiday seasonal ale series. Beginning in 2008 with A Partridge in a Pear Tree, each year they release a new brew honoring the next day in the song's lyrics. The idea is these are serious weighty brews that will get you through winter but also you are encouraged to cellar them for the 12 years it takes the brewery to release all the beers and then taste them side by side.

We've been cellar aging them ourselves since the first release and are going to pull out all 6 that have been released so far and have a little vertical beer flight tasting at the shop this Sunday, December 22nd. Come try Partridge, 2 Turtle Doves, 3 French Hens, 4 Calling Birds, 5 Golden Rings and the latest - 6 Geese a Laying. All included in the flight, and we'll have some of the more current releases available for sale as well. Plus you can grab some of the other holiday brews on the shelf at 20% Off for all of those who buy a Bruery tasting flight this Sunday. See you there!”

Lindsay Green of Vertical Distributing will pour selections from South Africa, Oregon, Washington, and California:

Graham Beck Rose Sparkling South Africa $18.99
The Rosé NV was allowed enough time on the lees to develop subtle yeasty undertones but to burst with berry and cherry flavours. On the nose expect whiffs of raspberries, cherries and a few secondary aromas of minerality. The palate delivers a lively mousse but fine in the mouth, with subtle red berry flavours enlivened by bright acids. Showing hints of oyster shell and fresh lavender. Flirtatious and fun, yet elegant and structured, it’s perfect for all seasons and settings. The ultimate in food friendly wines.
“This wine is a consummate all rounder. Most certainly elegant and refined, while simultaneously exuberant and racy,” maintains Pieter Ferreira, Graham Beck cellarmaster.
Lone Birch Chardonnay Yakima Valley 2011 $8.99
Light Straw color with a delicate bouquet of citrus fruits. On the palate, crisp, dry, and refreshing with vibrant acidity, a round mouthfeel, and flavors of zesty citrus fruit.
Omero Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2011 $22.99
"With fruit sourced mainly from the Ribbon Ridge AVA, our Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is a unique and feminine approach to this noble varietal. Aromatics of red currant, strawberry-rhubarb and elderflower with a palate of raspberry and honeycomb with bright acidity silky texture. The acidity and fruit-forward character is balanced-out with a chewy texture and long elegant finish. While it is very approachable in its youth, this wine has the structure and acidity required for aging. Alcohol 12.5%. 1,500 cases produced."
Alverdi Sangiovese Emilia-Romagna 2012 $7.99
Produced from approximately 60 hectares in the northwest region of Emilia-Romagna, Alverdi Sangiovese is vinified in stainless steel to preserve freshness. With aromas of violets and a mild hint of spice, this dry red is balanced with light tannins. Enjoy this Sangiovese with tomato-based pasta dishes or barbecued meats.
Chasing Lions Cabernet North Coast CA 2011 $13.99
82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10%
Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot Second-Use French Oak Barrels for 16 Months. Aromas and Flavors: Our Tasting Panel Score:
Violets, Black Cherry, Cassis, Blackberry and Raspberry 90 Points This rich wine offers notes of violets, black cherry, cassis, blackberry and raspberry.
Goes well with lamb roast, or a plate of strong cheeses.
Patit Creek Red Blend 2009 $14.99
Our 2009 Columbia Valley The Creek is a fantastic red blend at a great price. The nose is layered with bright characteristics of fruit, spice, and earthy tones. On the palate, the tannins are firm yet integrated, with structure that far exceeds its price. with some open time, rich Bordeaux fruits of red plum, black cherry, and cassis are predominant, with subtle lavender notes from the addition of Grenache. Wide open food pairings from lighter fare to heavy red meats, and at a price that makes the Tuesday night cork pull more than doable.
