This weekend, maybe some of your far-more-financially-fortunate-friends will head down to the harbor to board the $100 per person Spirit of Boston Valentine's Cruise and take their Valentine on a majestic champagne-toast cruise. Well kids, some of us “less fortunates” just have to get a little more creative. So, when you’re feeling like Aladdin and are ready to break out into “I can show you the world”-Boston-Style, look no further than Pier 3 of the Charlestown Navy Yard for the beginning of your Valentine’s Day wooing.
Although it’s admittedly super-budget, the MBTA’s F4 Boat from the Navy Yard to Long Wharf affords some of the most spectacular views you can get of the city—from the Zakim Bridge to the entire Boston skyline, these are some of the best panoramics in the city, and it will only set you back $1.70 per person. Before you get on board – steal a smooch with the purple lights of the “Zake” in the background or cruise the piers as you cuddle with your “numero uno”.
Once aboard, sit inside and enjoy the view from the warmth, or get brave and climb up top to the open air to really take in the scenery. Keep your Valentine snug by your side and the skyline in front of you and you might even forget all about the sub-zero temperatures around you. The boat leaves every 15 minutes during the week, and every half-hour on the weekends. Check the schedule here.
Once you’ve taken your romantic ride over to Long Wharf, if you really wanna win some points – take your true love on a surprise trip to the New England Aquarium – although each ticket will set you back about $21.00 (student/senior IDs get you a discount), nothing will win you more points than penguins. And if you really wanna seal-the-deal just mention why penguins are your favorite animal in the first place: because you truly admire and respect that they have one mate for life.
Bam! You win!
p.s. the Aquarium closes shop at 5pm on weekdays so plan accordingly, 6pm on weekends. For more info, check the “Tickets and Hours” section
p.p.s. if boats aren’t your thing, The Second Glass is hosting another $10 Valentine’s crash course this evening in Davis Square -- Crash Course: Vino Viagra and the Panty Remover... sounds educational.
