Bernie Dehler (atheist, and former evangelical Christian) had a webchat with Lenny Esposito (an evangelical Christian apologist). Bernie heads up a group called "The Center for Philosophical Naturalism" to help people understand what a naturalistic worldview looks like. Lenny heads up a ministry called "Come Reason" to equip Christians in how to defend and spread their faith.
The video is now online and can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QZ89c1LTO8 . Comments are allowed as long as they are respectful.
One of the topics discussed is the question "How can we determine truth if our minds are only the result of chemical processes?" Bernie's answer is quite simple: we can observe the difference in brains across different animal species and see that the more complex brain a species has, the more it can do mentally (such as make tools, create art, communicate, etc.).
Another interesting discussion point was the accusation from Bernie that Lenny isn't even in the game until he accepts the fact of evolution. How can Lenny expect to defend the faith if he is wrong on known science? Lenny suggests that the "fact of evolution" is disputable and not so obvious.
Another point of discussion is answering the question "How did the universe come to be?" Bernie suggested that since no one knows, this is a logical fallacy of "appeal to ignorance." If no one knows, then no one knows... it isn't evidence for either side.
