A video game year with no third party developers allowed

In the video game industry today, gamers heavily rely on third party developed games like Call of Duty, NHL, Madden, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Battlefield, Grand Theft Auto, and many more. But what would happen if third party companies actually decided to not make any games any more? Never again would people be able to play Call of Duty or Battlefield on the PS4 or Xbox One. Would your opinion of the console wars change? Would you move away from the land of the Sony and go to Microsoft, or maybe even the land of Nintendo?

Even though it would probably never happen, what if it did? With 2014 right around the corner, what if EA only decided to make games for the PS4? What if Konami decided to only make games for the Xbox One? Would that make you lean towards one system or the other? And then think about this, what would happen to Steam? Gamers on the PC would not have much to play with and therefore the PC would have to turn into some hard-core Candy Crush Saga console. Would that be something gamers would be interested in?

To this day, non-hardcore gamers buy one console or the other, not because of what exclusive games they offer, but because their friends have it. Children and adults both love to play games with their friends online and so when trying to buy a console, it is not the feeling of wanting a Halo game, but the feeling of, " I need something so I can compete online in Call of Duty with." Is there something wrong with that statement? Why is it exclusive games from Sony and Microsoft tend not to be talked about as much as the third party developed ones?

If this scenario was to ever play out, would the video game industry just fall or would gamers still buy video game consoles to play Forza, Dead Rising, Knack, Super Mario, Pokemon, or Halo? If not, all of the companies would have to combine together and make one console with a single Super Mario game where he holds a gun, drives a car, shoots zombies, and collects power ups that get held into a Pokeball.

Would that be enough for you? If this scenario ever did play out, what would happen or what would you do as a gamer? Please leave a comment below with your answer.
