The perfect vacation is one where everything falls into place. The weather, the road, and the people that you meet all determine if the planned vacation is a success. It is magical when all of those elements come together to create a vacation that will be remembered long after the suit cases are put back into storage. This week Ocean City created the perfect environment for a victorious family vacation.
The most important elements in making the vacation special is the place at the end of the road trip. For those going to the nearest beach to D.C. this summer that place is the Oceanic Motel in Ocean City, Maryland.
Southern California is known for its beaches. Being a college student at the University of Southern California made beach gatherings and beach events a common weekend activity. Thus the knowledge of beach motels with the sand and the sea became quite familiar. The same ambiance and beach night experience was in full display at the Oceanic Motel this week as the full capacity of the famous beach getaway was evidence that being the beach with an ocean view has made the motel famous.
Yet it was the excellent customer service and customer care of the manager on duty, Tamara, that made the beach vacation such a delightful experience. Ocean City is only a three hour drive from D.C. on one of the best kept highways in the nation. The straight trip on route 50 is a beautiful scenic drive through lush farm country and well-kept lawns of churches and homes throughout the region.
The trip to Ocean City started with the normal out of town inspection at L&J automotive. The sight of cars that were broken down with mechanical problems is an indication that one should never start a vacation trip without having the car checked by a mechanic. Sotheny Leas always makes sure that the car is ready for the road. The Bank of America branch next to L&J on Blair Road has closed but there is another convenient location in Petworth on Georgia Avenue. The drive to Ocean City takes only half a tank of gas.
For 40 years the vacation spot of choice was Myrtle Beach where the boardwalk was a favorite vacation spot going back to 1973. However, the destruction of the South of the Border resort in 2012 brought an end to 40 years of memories on the beach there. The famous spot was closed and history moves on. Ocean City is different from Myrtle Beach. Life is change and Ocean City is now a great vacation spot.
The manager at the Oceanic Motel provided excellent customer service. Tamara took the time to escort the customer to the beach quarters and provided the type of friendly service that made the stay at the Oceanic Motel very enjoyable. The view from the Oceanic is spectacular. The ocean view on the front and the boardwalk view from behind places the quest in the center of everything happening on the beach. And the prices at the motel fit into the current tight budgets that most families are experiencing due to the current economy.
Although the motel is important, the real center of the trip is always the beach and Ocean City provided a beach front that was clean and as well maintained as any in Southern California where beaches are big business. The Oceanic Motel is on the beach so the walk to the ocean is directly in front of the guest. The motel is visible from the sand. With 69 rooms with color television, free WiFi, air conditioning, wall to wall carpeting, private bath, private phone, microwave, and refrigerator the motel suite was comfortable without being extravagant.
What happens when the beach chairs are in place, the cooler is stationed, and the sound of the sea and surf are laced with sea gulls and surfers in the ocean is magical and should occur at least once a year. Since being injured on November 15, 2007, the yearly trip to Myrtle Beach ended with the surgery to repair a damaged shoulder. The eight hour drive was too much strain; however, the trip to Ocean City is only 122 miles from Bowie and can be comfortably driven in three hours.
There will be tens of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts in Ocean City from September 12 through September 15, 2013 for Biker's Weekend. The Oceanic is proud to be part of the event every September. For reservations call 1 (888)297-5856 or go to www.oceanicoc.com.
Make your vacation plans for September now. See you at the Oceanic in September 2014 for a great vacation.
Happy 30th Anniversary!
