It may be February 14th but not everyone is as ‘in love’ with Valentine’s Day as others may be. Many people may spend the day alone with their loved ones and doing the traditional dinner for two or passing out of Valentine gifts; however, not everyone shares the same sentiment about the day of love and would gladly spend it some other way than being depressed or feeling lonely because they don’t have someone to share it with. If you’re looking to celebrate a very un-Valentine’s Day this year you may want to consider a few unconventional activities throughout the day.
Clifford the Big Red Dog is turning 50 and many organizations are celebrating the day throwing a very happy birthday party for him. Yes, that’s right, it’s Clifford birthday! Invite a few family and friends over to the house and help the children in your life have fun while celebrating the beloved children’s book character’s momentous occasion.
Another way to beat the overdone Valentine’s Day festivities is to celebrate a different holiday like Christmas or Halloween instead. This idea is for those who really dread the Day of Love’s sense of loneliness created by actually being alone on Valentine’s Day. Dress up as your favorite superhero or decorate a little Christmas tree. You’ll definitely make everyone stop and think…. ‘What the heck?!’ but it will put a smile to your face knowing you didn’t fall victim to the clique dinner for two expectations for the night.
One final unconventional way to spend February 14th is to spend the day with people who could need the company and comfort of a stranger. Visit homeless shelters, hospitals, and senior centers and let others know that they too are not alone. Have your children create special Valentines to hand out to help put a smile on the face of another. Who knows perhaps having a different perspective on the subject of Valentine’s Day will warm your heart up to the idea of the dinner for two notion.
No matter how you chose to spend the day, make sure to spread the love and laughter that’s in yourself and keep the positive energy flowing to others even if you do decide to spend a very un-Valentine’s Day this year.
