OK men, if ever there was a hot tip to pass on to you, this is it, so pay attention.
With Valentine's Day just around the corner, you're probably thinking it's just another way for the usual "I love you" spoken with a fuzzy teddy bear or a throbbing bobblehead heart or maybe even a box of dark chocolates – or maybe you're thinking of one of the other hundred and forty-seven other corny ways to show or tell your loved one that you care.
But why not be a unique this year and say, "I love you more than words could say" and say it with the Guadalupe River Park Conservatory's Adopt-A-Rose Program for the ultimate gift that keeps on giving – and living? And in some cases, the gift that keeps on forgiving (one can only hope no one is in that much hot water with their sweetheart).
For about half the cost of a dozen red roses that last maybe a week or two, a rose bush in the color of your choice can be adopted for your sweetheart – from deep red (the color of love) to orange (the color of passion) for one year – to reside in the Heritage Rose Garden in San Jose.
To have something to present your to your sweetheart on Valentine's Day, you will receive a Valentine's box that will include a small box of Schurra's Candy Factory decedent chocolates, a San Jose Museum of Art Cafe Too! cookie, and a single red rose from Citti's Florist. The added bonuses are that your sweetheart will receive one red rose every month for a full year, and she can visit her adopted rose at the Heritage Rose Garden in San Jose any time she wants to visit. You can take her every month, or she can go with friends or coworkers – anytime she wishes to see her rose bush or inscripted Valentine's Day placque with the message that you thoughtfully had inscripted in her honor.
It is recommended that roses choices and orders be submitted early as rose adoption is becoming quite popular; a list of what is available can be viewed here or by visiting GRPC's website. Each rose has a location that is easy to find, numbered much like that of theatre seating, your sweetheart's rose location number received after adoption, with instructions and map available on the website.
This truly is a one-of-a-kind gift so men, please take time to put your heart into a message before going to the website to finalize your sweetheart's inscription. The Adopt-A-Rose Program is only a $50 donation and if purchased before Valentine's Day the package can be picked up in time to surprise your sweetheart. The Adopt-A-Rose Program is also available throughout the year for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Birthdays or any special occasion. For those who have ordered this in the past or wish to renew can do so for $45; placque inscription changes can also be made at any time during the year for an additional fee.
Valentine's Day packages must be ordered in time for pickup prior to February 14. No shipping or delivery with the Adopt-A-Rose Program. Orders are placed online and must be picked up at the GRP Gardens Visitor & Education Center located at 438 Coleman Avenue in San Jose. For more information, call (408) 298-7657.
This truly is one of the more unique Valentine's Day gifts – and not just for women; it makes a great gift for men, too.
