A Valentine's Day gift for you: Diet study urges chocolate cake for breakfast

Happy Valentine's Day to you! Here's a gift you might enjoy: there's been a new study done in Tel Aviv that shows that eating a piece of chocolate cake for breakfast could help you lose weight. This is a legitimate academic study touted on the BBC World Service last night just in time for the chocolate lovers holiday this next week.

The premise of this study is that indulging with a forbidden treat first thing in the morning will help you avoid eating sweets the rest of the day. Avoiding that deprived feeling is reported to help in resisting bad choices later in the day when the sweets, fat, and calories are more harmful than early in the morning.

The study is explained in this way by the BBC News:

The key is to indulge in the morning, when the body’s metabolism is at its most active and we are better able to work off the extra calories throughout the day, according to Professor Daniela Jakubowicz and her team.

I am not sure how this diet philosophy might work out for a diabetic like your Knoxville Cooking Examiner, but I do know that most diabetics that I talk to splurge and eat forbidden sweets more often than they should. Perhaps, a planned splurge early in the morning might prevent my little splurges all day long?

In the Tri-Cities area, most people would choose a piece of Kim Sorensen's famous fudge chocolate cake as their daily splurge. I know I would. She bakes a semi-sweet cocoa cake from scratch, then she loads it with this thick fudge at least 3/8 inches thick!

These cakes occasionally make appearances at various events in the Tri-Cities,  and they are very popular. If you attend a musical event at Machiavelli's in Downtown Bristol, you might have a chance of getting to taste it sometime.

This Valentine's Day holiday will find many people frequenting Blackbird Bakery in Bristol to pick up sweets for their sweets. You can click here and see their menu, which will get your mouth watering.
