Valentine’s Day is such a wonderful opportunity to tell others how much they mean to us. It can be shown with a card, flowers, chocolates, or even a personal gesture. So, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all gave our fellowman a Valentine?
For just one day, let’s try to do the following:
- Compliment or say something positive to a stranger
- Reach out to a friend with whom you haven’t spoken or seen for a while
- Take a treat and a Valentine to a neighbor who is single
- Buy a new article of clothing and give it to a group serving the needy
- Buy some bags of individually wrapped candy and give it to a homeless shelter or food bank to distribute
- Buy some flowers (real or silk) and take them to a nursing home to give to residents
- Keep any harsh words or gossip from crossing your lips
- Speak kindly to a child (but with the child’s supervising adult nearby)
- Buy a pack of Valentines and give out to a nursing home or assisted living facility
- Bring flowers or valentines to a hospital for those who are working, or for patients who might have nothing
- Send a pizza to a fire or police station to thank those who serve you (you might let them know that this will be arriving)
- Leave a chocolate heart candy on the desks of your co-workers
- Don’t miss an opportunity to do something for someone if the need arises
- Visit the gravesite of a loved one and place a flower on the marker
- Leave a flower or sealed-wrapped candy on the windshield of cars nearby
- Keep a bag of wrapped candy in your purse or pocket and give a piece to everyone you encounter (strangers included!)
Love is all about acceptance and appreciation. Just think of those who might not feel either, and brighten their day. That’s truly giving a Valentine to the world.
