What do endangered cocktails, breakfast and breasts have in common? The punch line is Breakfast for Boobs. But this is no joke. For those of you who still think that feminists have declared a war on men, I need to clarify that this is not the term we use for serving our husbands or male partners bacon and eggs on Sunday mornings. And for any men who happen to be reading this, read it again. I did not say boobs for breakfast, so calm down. You're on your own with that one.
The Denver chapter of Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails, (LUPEC) are committed to collecting, compiling and preserving endangered cocktail recipes. I do believe they also concoct and indulge in said cocktails at least monthly, and may have even been doing so when they wrote their mission statement. According to their website this must be done in order to continue the "150 year old American tradition of dangerous women calling themselves Ladies, getting together in groups, clubs and societies to work undercover while they chipped away at the patriarchy". And of course the goal, which leads us back to the 6th annual Breakfast for Boobs event, is to use their talents and resources to give back to the community.
So these determined and dangerous ladies will be putting on their aprons at Hot Cakes Diner in Denver this Sunday, April 18th, from 4:30 PM to 8 PM, volunteering their time to take orders, serve these delectable breakfasts for dinner, and clean it all up when you've had your fill. Since these defenders of the art of the cocktail are donating their time, all of the profits from the evening will be donated to Denver breast cancer organizations including Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and Project Sol. No worries about what's going on in the kitchen however. The professionals will still be manning the griddle.
So to all of you who admire, respect, and cherish boobs, whether they belong to you or not, take yourself and your loved ones out to dinner on Sunday at Hot Cakes Diner and have a good breakfast for a good cause. After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day no matter what time you eat it, and for the beneficiaries of breast cancer research and support, it could be the most important meal you ever have.
Note: So that there is no confusion: cocktails will not be shaken, stirred, or served at this event. If you wish to engage in a cocktail or future community service with the lovely members of LUPEC, you must be a 'dangerous woman who calls herself a Lady', and you can get more information on events or membership by clicking this link or by emailing them at info@lupecdenver.org
