The Islamic State is said to have retaliated against the United States for President Obama's decision to bomb Islamic State fighters by beheading a U.S. journalist. A video which has fallen into the hands of the U.S. press appears to show the Islamic State beheading a U.S. journalist reported USA Today on Aug. 19, 2014. The frightening video which was released on Tuesday appears to show a U.S. freelance photographer being beheaded by an Islamist fighter.

The American freelance photographer who appears to have been beheaded was kidnapped in Syria about two years ago. The video, which was posted by the media arm of the Islamic State and titled "A Message to America," has stated that James Wright Foley was executed in Iraq because of Obama's decision to bomb Islamic State fighters who have been battling Kurdish forces north of Baghdad.

In the shocking video which was done in Arabic with English narration another missing U.S. journalist, Steven Joel Sotloff, of Miami, is shown telling Obama his life depends on his next decision. Although the video's authenticity has not been verified independently it appears to be the real thing.

In the video a black dressed and masked militant is seen standing next to a shaved-head man. The shaved-head man is kneeling in the desert dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit with his hands tied behind his back reports USA Today. The captive made a statement which was critical of U.S. policy in Iraq and said he was being killed because of the U.S. airstrikes on Islamist State fighters. This is a tragic time for everyone with the failings of U.S. policies in the Middle East now appearing to have lead to such a brutal response from the Islamic State.
