By the sheer virtue of loving our cats, dogs, and every other type of animal that we choose to share our lives with, we open ourselves to the hurt of loss.
Our companions rarely outlive us; their lives, so much shorter than our own. This beautiful video is a loving tribute that was created by Janice Wolf, of Rocky Ridge Refuge and it is dedicated today to every person that has ever had the pleasure of loving a companion animal.
The pain of loss is great, but the pleasure of having been loved deeply and unconditionally is even greater.
On a personal note, this is dedicated tonight to Jen and her family for the loss of their beloved German shepherd Jake - a truly amazing dog with a beautiful soul. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
To my own recently departed companions, Drake and Hobie. To my father's lost hunting companions, Clipper, Coal and Doc, and to his hunting partner, Warren for the recent loss of Corey, another amazing hunting dog.
We have all suffered losses that grip our hearts with a pain unlike any other...but prior to that pain was a joy that could only have been provided by the unconditional love that we find from our beloved companions. Hold on to that love.

Beautifully written. Jake was just plain AMAZING!
Great article and beautiful, touching video. Brought tears to my eyes remembering all my fur-babies I've lost through the years. Will be giving the three we have now an extra hug and kiss tonight!
