Some of the best things in life are unexpected. Not to go overboard about material items, but that is how I feel about the loot I bought at this little shop off of US 41 near Kentland, Indiana. During a short weekend trip to watch a soccer tournament in Southern Indiana, my mother and I decided to make a pit stop at a small place we saw on the roadside.
As we pulled up to the store it appeared to be closed, but we stopped anyways to peer in through the windows. As I was approaching the front door, the owner popped out and told us to, “Come on in,” even though they were preparing to close for the day.
The store was much larger on the inside than I had anticipated. The inside of the store matched the motto on its business cards – “A little bit of a lot of things.” Needless to say my mother and I spent nearly 45 minutes raiding through all of the jewelry and accessories. After our little shopping spree, I can definitely say that we walked away with some great stuff.
Specifically, I found three bolo ties and a really cool belt buckle. I suppose I am somewhat of a TV fanatic at times, and I definitely think that my bolo ties and belt buckle are very Dallas; very cowgirl-chic (and for those of you who don’t know, Dallas is back on TV). As for my mom, she ended up finding a clutch that looks like something from the movie Titanic. It is a dainty and delicate beaded clutch. It truly looks like a piece that the character Rose would have worn to a dinner party.
However, the charm of this store was not necessarily found in all of the antique and vintage items ready to be purchased “again” by a new owner, but the charm in this store was found in the owners and their passion for finding new items to put in their store.
The owners, 2 women, were extremely accommodating and even showed me their newest stash of jewelry that was not on the shelf yet. The women pointed us in the right direction and showed us plenty of items that would probably be of interest to us. Sometimes it is the people and the experience that makes a purchase memorable and not just the item itself. I am thankful for stores like the Treasure Shop of Kentland. These kinds of stores pop up at random times and leave a mark on you forever. How can I forget purchasing three bolo ties!?
