A touch of jazz for Labor Day Weekend

Many consider Labor Day Weekend the last official holiday weekend of summer. With the school year in full swing along with the advent of football season, the transition from summer to fall is upon us.

However, before we say farewell to summer, the Gwinnett County chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (Beta Lambda Lambda Chapter) is providing a weekend experience grounded in a mature outing for the professional audience, support for a good cause, and simply enjoying the last of those long summer nights.

On August 30th, their inaugural "Jazz on the Green" event takes place at The Vines Mansion (3500 Oak Grove Road in Loganville). The event takes place from 4-11pm and provides a great opportunity to break out the "summer chic" attire.

The event features the sounds of the PR Experience at their outdoor pavilion, along with Trav Wright and the All Star Band for their indoor pavilion. As an added feature, Durrell Lyons Poetry and Friends are showcasing their liturgical as part of the poetry and spoken word set.

Ticket options include the limited pre-sale and general admission tickets of $40 per person, along with a more select offering of VIP tickets for $70 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the door (general admission) for $50 per person. It is encouraged that potential patrons purchase their tickets online (click HERE).

Coolers and outside food are prohibited for the event; food and other vendors are provided on-site, and Svedka Vodka is serving as the title sponsor.

Proceeds from the event are supporting the chapter's community initiatives, including their scholarship program. Since the chapter's chartering in 2000, they have awarded a minimum of $5000 per year, and their goal is to at least approach the $10,000 threshold for the 2014-15 year.

As summer drifts into the sunset, an afternoon and evening setting complete with live music, poetry, a DJ, and a mature setting can provide for the cure for the end of summer blues. With their inaugural event which should eventually become a solid fixture for events for the mature and professional audience, the men of the Gwinnett County chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. are doing their part in having a great event and the opportunity to support some great causes.

Then again, when you consider the mantra of "Friendship is Essential to the Soul", what else would you expect?
