Thursday night plans of dining at The Greek before catching the absolutely wonderful Peter and the Starcatcher were thrown off course by plumbing issues in the kitchen at The Greek. Fortunately, One Arts Plaza has more than one fabulous restaurant to care for your healthy dining needs.
It was a gorgeous night, especially for Texas in September, so the stroll across the way lifted the mood to an excitement at the possibilities. Fedora was the top choice. Although they were understaffed for the added influx of patrons, we were seated right away and given service with a smile.
The antipasto menu was, unfortunately, filled with bread and fried options. The Cozze a Vapore (steamed mussels) were the best option on the list and highly recommended if you eat seafood. The Zuppa e Insalata options, save the Caesar Salad, were all on the light and healthy slant. Ask for the vinaigrette dressing on the side to be sure you are limiting your oil and calorie intake.
There are gluten-free and vegetarian switches available on the Pasta and Secondi menu. These entrees are well proportioned, leaving your satisfied without being overfilled. This evening's choice was Ravioli Aragosta (lobster ravioli), a course that is frequently a miss in many restaurants so far from the water. Either the lobster is lacking or it is drowned in a heavy cream sauce packed with unfriendly calories. Fedora does the dish right.
The tender pasta was light, filled with large chunks of perfectly cooked lobster and topped with a sparing amount of tomato based sauce. The sauce complemented the ravioli without overwhelming the delicate seafood flavor. It most definitely did not taste heavy.
The other delight of the meal was the Thomas Henry Pinot Noir, which accurately met the description of a rose petal nose and taste of fresh strawberries. Dessert was skipped this evening, but upon inspection the only potential option is the sugar free Fragola Frollino.
