Tragedies for the Tibetans have become a way of life. News that a Tibetan college student killed himself in his room at the College of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah, near Dharamshala, India, has deeply saddened the Tibetan community. Phayul.com reported on Dec. 11, 2013, the 24 year old Tibetan student was found dead in his dorm room on Tuesday.
Tenzin Losel, the deceased student, had recently completed a six month course under the Tibetan Public Service Commission's program at Sarah. Losel received a certificate of completion from the Tibetan PM Lobsang Sangay on Monday. Sonam Dorjee, the Tibetan settlement officer, said it appeared this was a case of suicide by hanging. A suicide note was left in English by Losel. It appears Losel may have been depressed.
Losel was found dead in his room by fellow students during lunch time on Tuesday, according to the Tibet Sun. The details of this apparent suicide are not clear. The case is presently under investigation. Losel was at Sarah college studying a six-month intensive course in order to be recruited as a staff member at the Central Tibetan Administration. This is one among many tragic deaths by suicide among Tibetans in recent years.
