A three dimensional reason why some disney films have flopped

Disney’s The Princess and the Frog is not the next The Little Mermaid but it may not be because of the New Orleans setting or the race of the characters. According to The Guardian, Disney has announced they will officially and-permanently? Turn away from 2D drawn characters [March, 7 2013]

Some popular animations recently released from Disney using CGI are Bolt and Tangled and when compared to hand drawn recent releases such as the lovable Winnie the Poo and the Swampy, yet surreal Princess and the Frog- the CGI bunch generated more revenues hands down. Why?

Maybe it’s the bubbly, shiny characters.

Perhaps it is just so new and revolutionary.

Or maybe it enhances storytelling…what?

According to the same article, CGI animations tend to have better storylines, but the judgment will be up to you who love animations in the first place.

What makes you fall in love with a Disney film: The music? The story? The characters? The art? Or all of it?

Either way, the next time you are watching a Disney movie from at least ten or even twenty years ago, ask yourself would it really matter if the animations are in 2D or not?
