A therapeutic President's Weekend at The Greenbrier

Dance away the winter blues at one of the country’s oldest hotels, The Greenbrier, in White Sulphur Springs, WV.  Capitalizing on the national mania for ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, the resort has made dancing a key theme of its President’s Weekend package, February 17-20, 2012.

Many hotels have ballrooms where couples can tango and foxtrot.  The Greenbrier’s main ballroom will give its twinkle-toed guests that opportunity on Saturday evening, February 18.  Featuring the Walter Scott Quartet, the "Cabaret Dance" will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 PM.

Unlike most hotels, The Greenbrier also offers dance classes for President’s Weekend. The instruction begins on Saturday morning, at 11:30 AM, with three different levels of classes:  “First Steps Dance,” an intermediate class and advanced instruction.  The same three classes will be available on Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon.

The students will also have the chance to see how the pros do it.  At 5:00 PM on Saturday, class instructors hold a “Dance Showcase.”

If dancing hasn’t chased away the winter blues, hotel guests can try some laugh therapy at the Greenbrier Theatre’s Comedy Club.  Featured comedians for Saturday night are Brett Eastburn and Chris Coen.  Eastburn, a veteran motivational speaker, proves that physical handicaps are no impediment to an irreverent and slapstick sense of humor.  Coen, voted the “Funniest Man” in both Columbus and Cincinnati, OH, celebrates the archetypal slacker -- with attitude.  Hotel guests can reserve a seat at the Comedy Club, for a $25 fee.

More conventional therapy is also available at The Greenbrier, which is home to the world’s only five-star mineral spa.  Travelers have been taking the waters of White Sulphur Springs for more than 200 years.  Before deciding which therapeutic treatment is for them, hotel guests can sign up for a special tour of The Greenbrier Spa on Monday, February 20, at 9:00 AM.  At 11:30, guests can also tour the Laser and Aesthetic Center, which offers Botox and microdermabrasion, among other treatments, available at a 25 percent discount.
