Ever wonder what it would be like to work at a school in Englewood, where the Chicago Tribune reported 82 violent crimes, 148 property crimes and 149 quality-of-life crimes just in the past month? Well, take the opportunity today from 12:30p.m. – 1:30p.m. EST, when Dave Stieber will be answering questions online about working at an Englewood high school.
Even with Chicago’s south side reputation of being a crime-ridden, dangerous area, Dave seems to enjoy what he does everyday. Clearly, there are challenges to working in the Englewood neighborhood, but there are benefits too.
If you’re a dedicated educator like Dave, you might even enjoy working in a neighborhood where there are lots of challenges. These neighborhoods are also where there’s usually a greater need for good teachers.
If Dave’s discussion today can encourage some of our new graduates to go into teaching at an inner-city school in need of good teachers, then these children may have a chance to rid the negative stereotypes placed upon them by society and embrace a new reality of equality in education.
