The Dushanbe Teahouse, located on 13th Street across from Central Park in downtown Boulder, is much more than your average cup of tea. The teahouse itself takes you inside the Persian culture, beginning the moment you walk between the vine covered porticoes leading to the entrance. Inside, you are immediately aware of high ceilings painted in bright colors, the soothing sound of a trickling fountain, large shiny canisters filled with tea lining the back walls, and tables artfully arranged to provide both privacy and a sense of the communal. In fact, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, where the teahouse was built by over 40 artisans, teahouses are a community meeting place, where folks gather to share tea and company. More details about the history of the teahouse are explained in their menu and brochure.

The Dushanbe Teahouse is a popular place, especially on the weekends, when they serve brunch, lunch, and dinner. They are open every day of the week from 8 am to 9 pm and have a breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu, M-F. On weekends, brunch is served from 8 am to 3 pm. The fare is eclectic and creative, drawing from Asian, Indian, Italian, and British cultures, as well as any other global cuisines that strike the chefs’ fancies. You can find Salmon Eggs Benedict, Focaccia French Toast, Greek Scramble, Curry Chicken Wrap, Crab Cakes with a white tea dipping sauce, and pizza, just to name a few items. With 24-hours advance notice, you can enjoy a British High Tea, complete with a three-tiered tray filled with a variety of sweets and sandwiches and made to order according to your preferences. Beverage wise, in addition to over a hundred varieties of tea, they serve wine, beer, cocktails, iced teas, sodas, and coffee. They also offer a desert menu. Prices are reasonable and comparable to other mid-range restaurants.

In mild weather, you can opt to sit outdoors on the patio and when the Farmer’s Market is in session, it’s a lovely place to relax before or after perusing local wares at the park across the street. The Dushanbe Teahouse is well worth checking out any time of the year.
