'A Taste of Greater Newburgh' is a real under-cover event

Colleges often like to talk about being a "big tent" serving as shelter and nourishment to people from all walks of life. In the case of "A Taste of Greater Newburgh," that description is a very literal one.

The Newburgh Rotary Club will be hosting -- under a big white tent, which makes the event a rain-or-shine one -- the tasting of local culinary products on the campus of Mount Saint Mary College overlooking the Hudson River. The event is scheduled for 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 18. Tickets, priced at $30, are available online.

Visitors will be able to experience delectable dishes from a range of food purveyors from the region, ranging from ethnic eateries and BBQ joints to white tablecloth restaurants. In addition, vendors of craft chocolates, cheeses, wine and beer will be on hand. Live music plus an art show and sale are included. Proceeds from the event will benefit a multitude of local community organizations.

Past participants expected to be involved this year: Avocado, Billy Joe's Ribworks, Captain Jake's, Cosimo's, El Solar Cafe, Fresh Start Cafe, Gus's, Hudson Street Cafe, Hudson View Cafe, Leo's, Machu Picchu, Newburgh Brewing Company, Red Ginger, River Grill, Ruthie's, Pizza Shop, Wherehouse and Wildfire Grill.
