Are you sick from the Hawaii VOG?

For many individuals here in Honolulu it has been a rough week. Basically, their immune systems have been attacked from colds, flu, and now the vog from the Big Island‘s volcano is making people very sick. If you have diabetes, your blood sugars would have increased as well. Of course, if you have asthma your immune system would be under a full attack from the vog. What is vog? Vog comes from the volcano and is a form of air pollution which contains sulphuric acid and other sulfates. And, yes it is toxic to humans, animals, and plants as well.

If your throat is feeling scratchy, eyes are itchy and swollen and you have a horrible cough you may be experiencing the side effects of vog. As the symptoms increase you’ll experience congestion which will cause a sinus headache. In addition, you may experience sore muscles, nausea, and flu-like symptoms. If you have breathing problems go to the emergency room ASAP.

The best advice is to stay indoors when the vog is present. Also, drink plenty of alkaline water. In addition, increase your vitamin C levels as this is a powerful antioxidant that is required for at least three hundred metabolic functions in the body. Vitamin C not only reduces symptoms of asthma but protects against the harmful effects of pollution, helps to protect against cancer, infection, and boosts the immunity. Vitamin C will fight viruses, bacteria, and produce disease-fighting cells. The orange is a tangy fruit that contains beta-sitosterol, which has been shown to lower blood cholesterol and prevent tumor formation. Since vitamin C attacks free radicals you’ll need to make sure you have plenty if you have diabetes and are dealing with the vog. In addition, vitamin C from the orange will help prevent cataracts, and promote healing of wounds and burns. Vitamin C aids in the production of anti-stress hormones. Did you know that an orange can even boost your love life by causing more of the hormone oxytocin to be released? Yes, this way you can celebrate Valentine’s Day everyday!
