It was the best of times for the St. Louis Park Oriole soccer teams Tuesday night as both the girls and boys teams recorded home shutouts over the Fridley Tigers.
In the girls game, Allie Simonette and Elena Basil scored two goals apiece to shutout the Tigers 8-0.
St. Louis Park tallied six first half goals, starting with Simonett scoring from the left side. Abby Bremner put the Orioles up by two and Samantha baer scored 43 seconds later. Then Basil socred as she went though the slot and picked up an assist on Mariel Klaverkamp's goal. Simonett scored her second goal to put St. Louis Park's halftime lead at six.
The Orioles tacked on two goals in the second half. Maddie Bremner scored the first and Basil picked up her second as a pass from Madeline Djerf went off her body and entered the net.
St. Louis Park improved the record to 3-1 and will play the Park Center Pirates on Saturday, September 7 at 1 PM. Fridley ended a three game winning streak and fell to 3-2. They return to action Thursday, September 5 at Columbia Heights in a 7 PM game.
On the boys side, Artis Curiskis scored two goals and assisted on one to lead St. Louis Park to a 5-0 shutout of Fridley.
Curiskis picked up an assist on the first goal as his corner kick was headed in by Hashim Aideed. Curiskis, one of 10 Oriole seniors picked his first goal after receiving a pass from Maxwell Kent. He scored his second on a pass from Luke Von Eschen to give the Orioles a 3-0 halftime lead.
Evan McManus began the scoring in the second half for St. Louis Park. Nicholas Owens put the finishing touch on the shutout after he collided with Adolfo Lara and the ball went off his head and entered the net.
The Orioles increased their record to 3-01 and will play an 11 AM game against the Park Center Pirates Saturday, September 7. The Tigers evened their record at 2-2 and will play at Columbia Heights Thursday, September 5 at 5 PM.
