A surprise tornado warning in Southern California was issued Tuesday. Most of Southern California has been under a tornado warning watch for Tuesday afternoon, from Los Angeles down to San Diego.
A storm of heavy rains and winds hit Southern California and caused severe flooding, car accidents and one SUV was overturned with heavy winds; no major injuries have been reported. But major flooding has occurred throughout Southern California. Thunderstorms, high winds, and lightening have been reported throughout Southern California.
Witnesses reported seeing boats lift out of the water and come ashore in Sunset Beach. The ski in Orange County is calm now, but another storm is expected to move in Wednesday afternoon, following by another on Thursday. Flash flood watches remain for most of the Southern California area on Tuesday.
In August of 1999, an extremely rare tornado hit downtown Salt Lake City, uprooted trees, took the roof off the Delta Center convention building and blew out windows in a hotel. Because the mountains surround the downtown area of Salt Lake City, tornados were never expected to hit that part of the state. And this was the first tornado to hit downtown Salt Lake City.
