Anyone in the surfing community knows that the secret breaks are highly coveted.  However, there is a perfect area in Mexico where the pros can get their waves and beginners can learn some surfing skills.

Punta de Mita, near Sayulita, offers incredible opportunities to learn to surf.  It is surrounded by the pacific coast and Banderas Bay in the state of Nayarit, Mexico.  Two schools there in particular offer stem to stern instruction.  The staff at Mictlan Surf as well as the guys at La Escuelita are top notch. The instructors teach the nuances of catching a wave, when to pop up, and how to ride the board down the line.  Their goals are fun, safe, full service learning experiences for any age and level.  The sessions are provided with a full range of surfboards and rash guards for your comfort.  With these lessons comes a guarantee that everyone will get up and ride a wave.  The instructors are truly excited to help their students catch waves and their encouraging cheers make this adventure a terrific day of fun in the sun.  Partaking in a surf session this way ensures you are out of the way of the pros on the bigger waves so everyone has the best of both worlds.

A day out with these guys and its all smiles and a perfect ending is an après-surf margarita.

There are also some terrific condo options to rent - beautifully equipped and reasonably priced!  This examiner recommends a beautiful oceanfront with miles of white sand, as well as brand new condos with everlasting views.  An adventure trip to Punta de Mita is perfect for surfing fun!

I tried surfing in Australia once, but this trip would be a great deal closer and less expensive for transportation/flight. Thanks for the insights.

We lived there for a few months when the kids were younger, they surfed every day after school! It's a wonderful community and the locals are very friendly and helpful. Cheers
