As the graphics continue to improve in online worlds, game players have become increasingly creative in how they interact with those worlds.
Take, for instance, the recently released Grand Theft Auto 5, from Rockstar Games. The smash hit, which generated over $1 billion of sales in a single weekend, allows players to roam (and terrorize) a massive world that measures 49 square miles.
Some users have taken to creating elaborate music videos of insane gun fights and stunts performed within the game, but the folks at YouTube’s The Despicable Channel had a better idea. They spent an entire day in the same standing still. That is, holding still in order to capture massive amounts of game footage that could be sped-up.
The remarkable impact of these time-lapse videos is to highlight how much detail Rockstar has put into this game. It's the simple thing that make it so special: the reflection of the sun on buildings, or the way cars move and stop naturally. Take note of the incredible detail in the wind, which blows in various directions and can carry small bits of trash and birds in the far distance.
