And the king loved Esther more than all the women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the maidens, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. (Esther 2:17 AMP)
Most of the time we shouldn't have favorite people. Each person is needy of warm, loving relationships with us. But the king had a favorite wife. We should love our husband or wife as our favorite. They hold a special place in our hearts that no one else can fill. They also should be treated as if on a pedestal, spoiled by our love and affection.
For all of us there is Someone we can have the privilege of setting on a pedestal. Our love and affection for Him should be above others. We are His bride, He our First Love. He keeps us in a favored place in His heart.
We can read our favorite verses and sing our favorite songs about Him and worship. Or we can find a fresh verse of Scripture to read and worship. We could dine with Him. He'd dine with us. (Revelation 3:20) So as the troubles of our day bear heavy on us and the frustrations irritate, we have the privilege of the oil and the wine that was healing to the Samaritan's neighbor being poured out from our Savior. His love is a healing, soothing elixir. Our love to Him is a sweet fragrance.
