A+ savings in Parade's annual freebie issue

Parade freebie issue

With families shopping for school supplies, school clothes and the myriad of other items for fall, families seem to be spending a small fortune. A recent survey in Parade of Walmart Moms revealed that August is the toughest time to stay on budget. According to the National Retail Federation, the average family spends more than $560 transitioning from summer to fall. Parade wants to help families find more ways to save big money.

Withe families concerned with over spending, there is no shame in being thrifty. Throughout the year, certain items offer better savings. For example, August offers sales on laptops and backpacks, September sales include markers and calculators, October has deals on denim, and November saves on sneakers.

When it comes to keeping kids busy and occupied, parents don't have to empty their wallets. In the freebie issue, Parade offers a long list of free activities that kids and parents will enjoy. With all these ideas, there is no excuse for sitting at home on the couch.

For this annual freebie issue, the cover boasts the Today show’s Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. On the fourth hour of the Today show, the co-hosts regularly feature steals and deals. “People are struggling right now, and we’re really aware of it,” says Gifford. While admitting they could be seen as an unlikely pair (Kathie Lee jokingly describes them as “a postmenopausal has-been and an award-winning Egyptian journalist!”) they obviously get along very well. “There are times when I can’t believe I’m sitting next to Kathie Lee. Who would’ve thought?” says Hoda.

In addition to all the savings tips, Parade is offering a give-away bonanza of prizes worth thousands of $$$. Here are just a few of the 20-plus prizes Parade readers can win (only one prize per person):
