It’s happening now. I mean Creation. I mean your life, my life, this life. It’s all unfolding now, in this moment.
Right now, thoughts are emerging and ideas are being born. Right now, your eyes are moving across these words, your brain is firing neurons, your blood is pumping, your lungs expanding, and your heart is preparing to flower. Right now, the clouds are shifting, the trees are breathing, and the Earth Herself is waking. Right now, the planets are swirling, galaxies are expanding, and the sun is radiating light. Right now, this very moment, is the most powerful time of all.
The Power of Now author, Eckhart Tolle, said it best, “Nothing ever happened in the past; it happened in the Now. Nothing will ever happen in the future; it will happen in the Now.”
Try something with me: first, stop and breathe. Notice the breath moving in and out. With your attention concentrated on the breath and centered in the present, notice the sounds, the sights, the colors, the motion, and the vitality of life around you. Notice the thoughts, the sensations, the memories, the images, and the activity emerging from within. Between the inner and outer worlds, notice the ten thousand ways that life is revealing itself right now.
You see, this ceaseless change of reality points to the energy of Creation forever taking place. When a thing - whether it is a cloud, a wave, a breath, a thought, a feeling, or a sensation in the body - comes into existence it moves from a place of no-thing to something. It moves from emptiness to fullness. This movement from nothing to something, from formlessness to form, from emptiness to fullness is ceaseless. This motion, this energy is always taking place and to participate in this movement consciously can be a spiritual practice of deep implication.
“I once had a dream,” wrote the great German mystic and philosopher Meister Eckhart, “in which I, even though a man, was pregnant like a woman with child. I was pregnant with nothingness; and out of this nothingness God was born.”
By laying the past aside and leaving the future where it belongs, you can access the river of Creation. You can enter the field of nothingness and find your power, your passion, and your brightest light. All it takes is bringing your attention to the present moment. Then, connect to the vitality of Life around you. Then, get creative yourself. Pick up a pen, a paintbrush or a potter’s wheel. Whatever moves through you as you create in the now is part of the great unfolding. Remember this River is flowing right now - not only through you with all its vitality but as you too. Fundamentally, you do not exist as a separate being, but rather as an indivisible expression of what connects all of us - the underlying, interconnected sacred and generative field of nothingness. “The human soul,” wrote Michael Tamura “has one foot in nothingness and the other in everything.” Find your full radiance, your bright light, by connecting to Creation’s river, right here, right now.
