Carousels and a rare intact 1880’s Soda Fountain and Pharmacy interior are among the 300 unique items which will be available at auction on Saturday, November 16, following a preview party on Friday, November 15, 2013. Both events take place at 6 p.m. at Donley’s Wild West Town on 8512 South Union Road in Union, Illinois.
The 1890’s Mt. Washington Soda Fountain and Pharmacy interior from Haverhill Massachusetts is a significant piece of Americana history. The complete interior includes all of the original displays, walls, drawer pulls and artisan leaded glass fixtures. The pharmacy, which was in business until 1984, was painstakingly disassembled piece by piece. The soda fountain portion of the interior features a polished marble counter and original marble syrup fountain produced by Lippincott Co, an early innovator in soda fountain manufacturing.
Also being auctioned is the PTC 72 carousel from Kiddieland manufactured by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company; an 1880’s Hershell-Spillman Steam Carousel which is one of the first carousels ever made; and the Allan Herschell Carousel—the only self-sustaining, solar-powered carousel in the country.
“Not only did the steam engine provide power for the carousel, but it was also the advertising vehicle,” says Daniel Horenberger from Brass Ring Entertainment, a renowned carousel expert. “Literally, the engine would ride through town with horse and driver to alert the folks that the carousel was in town.”
Presented by Donley Auction Services, the auction also includes a Steinway reproducing baby grand piano, leaded glass windows from Bogenrief Studios, nickelodeons, antique phonographs, and various juke boxes. For details, call Donley Auctions 815-790 - 9435 or visit https://donleyauctions.com.
