A Review of Julius Meinl's Rooibos Nougat Zabaione Tisane

Name: Rooibos Nougat Zabaione

Brand: Julius Meinl

Type: Tisane, rooibos

Form: Loose leaf

Review:  Composed of rooibos, lemongrass and mullen flowers, this tisane is a treat for those seeking a caffeine-free alternative to either coffee or tea.

The dry leaf does indeed boast a nose reminiscent of nougat: Full, sweet, and candy-like. The lemongrass contributes a slightly fruity backnote.

The tisane infuses to a deep burgundy, retaining its sweet, rich nose, with a citrus/lemongrass character. On the palate, the tisane has a deep, somewhat nutty flavor, with some roasted notes and a slight citrus backnote: The lemongrass does not dominate as it often does in blends, but plays a supporting role. This tisane reminds me a bit of coffee and, oddly enough, Ceylon tea. In any case, I think this tisane would be a great option for both tea and coffee fanatics who need to cut back on caffeine.
