Watch night service is over and now you're left with the reality of a new year. This year instead of making resolutions, do your part to contribute to a New Year evolution. This evolution is not without its share of work. Beyond the archetypal caterpillar to butterfly metamorphosis, this “evolution” will also include an all-out revolution!
-Revolt against the bad habits that have for years plagued you and bogged you down.
-want to lose weight? Create a better sleep plan so that you begin a small exercise regimen at home before joining a gym
-Want to lose spiritual weight as well (Heb. 12:1-2)? Spend time in the word and carve out daily devotion time!
-Want to keep your goals in plain sight? Write them down and make more than one copy! Post them everywhere you go!
-On the bathroom mirror
-In the car
-On your computer at work
-Schedule a daily reminder on your phone!
Every year New Year Resolutions, like wishes are made and hope for Aladdin's genie to make them all come true!
Truth of the matter is, they won't be realized without our fair share of work! Our prayers should be focused on asking the Lord for strength and discipline to realize them rather than wishing for God to magically perform these miracles for us in lieu of our laziness!
Each year, the roots of those resolutions are essentially to become better people as we age. We want to be more disciplined, skinnier, healthier, friendlier, richer, and smarter- the list goes on!
The list also grows because we want new, good habits without expelling old, bad ones.
Gatorade launched an ad campaign in 2010 that said of its new product line: "if you want revolution, the only solution is to evolve". I'm going to spin that a little and say that if you want those resolutions, you've got to evolve! The jingle for the campaign was written and produced by hard core rapper David Banner. The successful jingle and campaign was a departure from Banner's hardcore style. It's safe to say that even David Banner has "evolved" into much more than a rapper, showcasing a more artistic side which more than likely paid higher dividends than his normal rap tracks would.
Here are a few pointers going into the New Year for those caught between evolution, revolution and their New Year resolution!
1.You're going to have to become the person that is able to work to achieve them.
2.You're going to have to become a person who can problem solve and develop a winning plan.
3.You're going to have to be so determined that trips back to the drawing board don't derail your vision for a better you!
4.Don't be discouraged that one or more of your goals for the New Year need a tweak or two.
In the same sense that you can't put new wine in old wine skins, your New Year resolution will be fruitless without any change of the "old" you!
