A request to the veterinarian for the Olympic Animal Sanctuary

See also

Over the weekend, the founder and operator of the Olympic Animal Sanctuary in Forks, Wash., indicated that he would shut down his facility and turn the dogs over to the Best Friends Animal Society.

The media spokesperson for Best Friends Animal Society issued a statement that they have not yet heard from Markwell about this request.

In the meantime, concerns continue to be expressed for the 125 dogs who are living inside of the warehouse and tensions outside of the warehouse continue to mount as well.

On Monday morning, the National Dog News Examiner reached out to Best Friends Animal Society to see if they would contact the veterinarian for the dogs who are in Markwell's possession - the hope was that the veterinarian could issue an official, up to date statement about the condition of the dogs.

Barbara Williamson, media relations manager at Best Friends Animal Society, stated:

As you know from the previous statement, to this point Steve Markwell has not contacted Best Friends Animal Society and that Best Friends does not have any legal authority in this situation. The people who are concerned that dogs may be dying need to talk to local authorities and ask them what can be done to do a welfare check on the dogs.

A previous attempt by the National Dog News Examiner to reach Markwell fell flat - there was no response.

Followers of the We Stand with Olympic Animal Sanctuary page on Facebook seem to have ties to Markwell, and hopefully, they will see this request and pass it along...

Can the veterinarian for the dogs at the Olympic Animal Sanctuary please visit the facility this week and send me a report which outlines the condition of the dogs, along with current photos, to

Mud-slinging and hearsay have taken over the current situation and it would be a great relief to the concerned individuals who are following what is happening, to hear from a professional who is willing and able to provide a non-biased report about how the dogs are doing right now.
