A reminder of who Sheriff Paul Babeu really is

With the recent admission by Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu that he is gay, many conservatives are turning away from the sheriff and dropping their support for his Congressional run.

True to form, the mainstream media has been skewering Babeu and exhibiting the kind of hypocrisy on this matter that was once only reserved for the Democrat Party (rather redundant…I know).

While it is expected for the MSM to foment homophobic and bigoted attitudes when a conservative politician reveals that he is gay, Republicans and conservatives (not necessarily one in the same) should remain focused on the real issues and continue to support Sheriff Babeu.

For those of you who are ready to turn your backs on the man who this writer often refers to as this country’s “undocumented Homeland Security chief,” please take a look at the sheriff’s heroic recent past:

-On DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano’s rather laughable claims of border security…In April 2011, Sheriff Babeu testified before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security about the dangers the residents of his county face due to our largely unprotected border with Mexico.

Babeu told the committee: “This violence is not just coming here. It is here. People in my county do not feel the border is more secure than ever and we are 70 miles north.”

Babeu also addressed Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s recent claim that “the border is better now than it ever has been.”

He explained: “We need help out in Arizona. In anybody's scorecard, if the majority of people (illegal aliens) are getting through, that is a failing grade. Period.”

Two months earlier, Babeu told Fox News: “She's in some trance. And the only talking points she has is ‘the border is more secure than it ever has been,’ and the other thing is 'unprecedented resources have been added’”

-On the cartels’ operations in Arizona…In June 2010, Sheriff Babeu held a press conference in which he announced that Mexican drug cartels already controlled not only parts of his county, but much of southern Arizona.

Babeu said: “We are outgunned, we are out manned and we don't have the resources here locally to fight this.”

A week earlier, two men were murdered in Pinal County, as a result of cartel violence, and a little over a month before that, Deputy Louie Puroll was ambushed and shot by Mexican drug traffickers.

According to the sheriff’s office, the traffickers used military tactics. Fortunately, Deputy Puroll survived his wounds.

Pinal County deputies have photographed armed smugglers loading drugs into vehicles on Highway 8. The area, which was once a favorite with hikers and off-roaders is now dotted with signs warning the public of the dangers posed by drug and human smugglers.

Exasperated by the lack of federal help, Babeu said: “We are three counties deep. How is it that you see pictures like these, not American with semi and fully automatic rifles. How is that okay?”

-On the ATF’s Fast and Furious scandal…With last year's revelation that Attorney General Eric Holder knew about the ATF gun smuggling scheme as early as July 2010, which is nearly a year earlier than he claimed before Congress, the question becomes…Is Eric Holder an accomplice to Agent Brian Terry’s murder?

Babeu recently pointed out: “If somebody gives a gun to somebody knowing they’re going to commit murder, guess what we call them?...We call them accomplices.”

Besides telling Americans the truth, Sheriff Babeu and his deputies have participated in numerous drug busts which have resulted in putting a serious dent in cartel operations in Arizona.

In fact, no longer able to wait for a response from the federal government, Babeu ordered a well known drug smuggling corridor, which leads through Pinal County into the center of Arizona be shut down.

At the time, Babeu said: “All the illegals and drugs overwhelmingly are funneled right through Pinal County. We're going out to directly meet these cartels. We're saying this is coming through our county and we've had enough.”

The sheriff has repeatedly warned the cartels that his deputies are ready for an all-out battle.

Babeu’s department recently purchased 130 new semi automatic rifles as well as night vision equipment to combat the snipers who camp out in the hills along smuggling routes in Pinal County.

Sheriff Babeu not has not only had the courage to speak truth to power and call-out the Obama administration on their attempts to put a happy face on the dire situation now facing the American Southwest due to the federal government’s unwillingness to protect our border with Mexico, but he has taken on the responsibility of actually defending this country from criminal invaders, thus doing the job that the feds won’t do.

What far too many conservatives often forget is that part of conservatism is the desire to simply be left alone, with no one peering into your own personal affairs...So, why not extend that same principle to others?

Sheriff Babeu is currently under attack, more than likely because of his strong stance against illegal immigration, the spread of Mexican drug cartels in this country and the lack of action on the part of the Obama administration on both of these matters.

The sheriff needs support your now more than ever. Don’t let the liberal press and the open-borders activists destroy this man…We simply cannot afford to lose him.
