The presidents proposed strike against Syria are designed to ‘send a message’ to the Assad government but it doesn’t want to interfere in their civil war or dispose the dictator. He wants to strike firmly enough so that it has no effect whatsoever on Assad or anything else for that matter. That’ll teach’em
President Putin of Russian suggested that they talk it over at the G20 summit coming up in St. Petersburg. Good idea, no? In fact this is what we can use as a “re-set” with Russia. Put all those negotiating skills you spoke about years back when Bush was a war criminal.
But you see that would be difficult because the last time Putin and Obama were in the same town Obama refused to see him. Remember how George Bush squandered our standings with the rest of the world and that he should have spoke to his enemies, heck, even Castro. Yea THAT Obama is not on speaking terms with Russia while he wants to bomb Syria. I mean, come on. Am I the only guy seeing this?
And then there’s this from Walter Shapiro from Yahoo News:
President Barack Obama, according to background briefings by his aides, reached a fateful decision late Friday afternoon as he strolled along the White House lawn with his chief of staff Denis McDonough. Contrary to every expectation by his national security team, Obama concluded that he should ask Congress for authorization to bomb Syria.
The full reasoning behind the president’s turnabout remains murky. He may have wanted to share responsibility for a risky strategy to punish the barbarous regime of Syrian strongman Bashir al-Assad for using chemical weapons against his own people. Obama may have recognized the political dangers of attacking another Middle Eastern country without popular support at home.
Or how about this Walter, Obama can’t attack Syria without congressional approval period. What do you think, he does whatever the heck he wants?
You see Obama can attack a country without the support of congress or even bothering the UN. He wants to do it and that’s final, if he happens to ask for approval, he’s just being cagy and seeking to “share responsibilities”.
The hypocrisy is so blatant it’s astonishing. Every criticism of George Bush’s policy with regards to Iraq; that he was going alone; that he should negotiate; that it was an illegal war; whether or not we ought to dispose of the Iraqi regime even though, amongst a lot of things, he used chemical weapons on the Shia and the Kurds. Not only was any of that true but if it were, none of it mysteriously seems to matter anymore.
Bush had to send Colin Powel to the UN showing silly drawings of trucks supposedly carrying chemical weapons. This “tricked” the UN and then Bush got their approval. Obama? He skips the whole UN charade altogether, which quite frankly I don’t blame him but was every criticism of Bush from Obama and the rest of the bunch now a lie? We have president Obama, Joe Biden and John Kerry getting us primed for an attack. Biden, Kerry and Mr.Nobel Prize winner. It doesn't get any hyppyercritic than that. Oh Hillary you were so smart to get out of there.
News Flash: Obama won't bomb Syria unless congress okay's it. If this is the case and they refuse it could be such an embarrassment.
