A Redhead, A Tea Room, and A Houston Crime Series

More than a decade ago, I met a demure, petite redhead. How did we meet? I had a little tea room out in the Northwest Houston ‘burbs. She and her husband would come in for lunch.

I guess you’ve already figured out that it’s the very same author I’m going to bring you today. As conversations can go, I found out she was a writer—correction—a published author! DiAnn Mills

I was thrilled to meet a real life author. Wow! So, shortly after it shouldn’t come as a surprise we started hosting events at my tea room, this tiny redheaded author and I. Book signings, presentations, even writers’ workshops. A couple of the pictures in the slideshow feature tea room’s marquee announcing her events. They were taken more than a decade ago.

Imagine my delight when I saw her on the cover of Christian Fiction Magazine Online a few days go. This tiny package of a dynamo author delivers. Now there’s a little something I failed to mention. And it goes far in explaining this woman’s success. When you get into a conversation with her, don’t be surprised at the core of inner strength which emanates from her pretty blues. It is downright unnerving. And cool.

This woman has determination. She’s a mentor with the Jerry Jenkins Christian Writers Guild. She’s won awards. And she’s two books shy of having sixty published books. That’s right. Sixty. She’s working on a cool series these days. Crime Scene: Houston Series.

The series is about FBI Solved Cold Cases. The first book is out. The second one is coming out next month. They’re in the slideshow above too. Well then, I had to ask her a few questions. And since I’ve taken up so much space with my meanderings down memory lane, I’m going to keep this interview brief. But I promise another—truly I do.

What she does: I create stories with passion and suspense. I also mentor serious writers. Both go hand in hand. The more I teach writing, the more I develop my craft.

Why she likes it: I’m a storyteller, and I love unlikely heroes - and heroines. Suspense intrigues me with a thread of romance. I love the whole creation process that begins with “what-if.”

What inspires her: People, all different kinds. A flower garden. A moving van. A dump truck. A police cruiser. A book. A movie. Anything and everything.

If not this, then what? Another suspense story, more powerful than anything I’ve done. A plot line that is chilling ... real ... unexpected and unpredictable with characters who aren’t afraid of a death-defying challenge.

If not here, then where? Who knows where life will take us? But I’m along for the ride.

What's next? I’m so excited to begin another series about FBI Houston. This series focuses on the different departments within our FBI. I want to take the reader on an unforgettable adventure.

Thank you to DiAnn Mills for taking the time. The Survivor will be out next week! Of course, you can find it on Amazon.
