The City of Laferia, Texas had its fifteenth annual lighted Christmas Parade; considered by many to be one of the best in Deep South, Rio Grande Valley, Texas.

The theme this year was “Inside Santa’s Workshop”.

The parade was both entertaining and uplifting.

It was exciting to see so many aspects of Laferia and surrounding communities taking part in this annual event.

The floats were creative with one built on an eighteen wheeler flatbed decked out with a full complement elves in somewhat assembly line fashion turning out gifts for “Santa’s Workshop.

The marching bands were the best this writer has witnessed in the past five years of observing this annual parade. The music choices and performances were simply outstanding.

Businesses, churches, city and county officials and schools all were present and in support of this magnificent celebration of a Christmas spectacular.

Children and adults both looked on with excitement and enthusiasm as they watched float after float and band after band pass in front of their twinkling eyes; it was as though the children were getting a preview of Christmas morning itself.

Added to such a spectacular event was the arrival of winter just in time to put the additional feel of chill and Christmas literally in the air.

Because the theme was “Inside Santa’s Workshop”, children were dressed in abundant numbers as elves and other kinds of Santa’s helpers.

There was a panel of judges who reviewed each float, band and presentation and made an ultimate decision on the winner.

The grand prize float winner of this year’s annual Laferia Christmas parade was known as “Big Bertha”; an 18 wheeler flatbed decorated as Santa’s assembly line toy workshop.

This year’s parade helped the people of Laferia end a very trying year for itself and most Americans in a spectacular fashion of hope and outlook for wonderful 2014.

Happy New Year to all those who helped make the 2013 Christmas Parade a success and a very Happy 2014 to all .
