A Rare Early Farmhouse Find

The Morgan-Hueston House is known to be one of the more rarely found early farmhouses.  This house sits between Mack Road and Woodridge Blvd over in Fairfield on Ross Road.  The house goes by many names such as the Hay House, the Elisha Morgan Mansion, the Gilbert House or simply Gilbert Farms.  A guy by the name of Elisha Morgan purchased the 48.6 acres of land as part of the Symmes Purchase in 1817.  The architect of this unique farmhouse is unknown at this time but there are two architectural styles that were used to build this farmhouse.  The front part of the house which is the original building was built in the Federal style while the 1858 addition in the back was built using the Greek Revival.  Despite the suburban development that has been going on in the township, this unique and old farmhouse has survived.
