Vanity Fair reported Wednesday that when a wellwisher gave the former Kate Middleton a teddy bear during a rare public appearance Tuesday, one woman in the crowd, Sandra Cook, said she heard Kate respond: “Thank you, I will take that for my d…”, but corrected her self by saying "for my baby".
The best-selling Sun tabloid headlined its story with "One's D" – while rival Daily Mirror called it with more certainty: "It's A Girl!" Even the staid The Times joined in, saying, "Has the Duchess given the game away?"
Sandra, who was standing near Kate, told reporters that she asked Kate if she had been about to say, ‘daughter’ and was told at first that the royal couple did not know and then that the couple would not reveal the child’s gender.
“I’m certain it’s a girl. She wouldn’t have said the D-word otherwise. After she said it, she was a little flustered.”
Later, the Duchess was asked by a member of the crowd if the baby had been kicking, and she responded, “Yes it is, very much so.” Whatever the gender, it’s showing early signs of its parents’ athleticism.
The Sun suggested that Kate may have meant “darling” as a nickname for her bump.
Or the D could stand for the baby’s potential name — Daniel, David, Dawn or Dorothy.
Perhaps the duchess was referring to a pal who collects bears.
